# Add Shopify customer tags when a membership is cancelled

Memberply can add your own Shopify customer tags when a membership cancellation takes effect. You can use these tags in Shopify Flow, customer segments, email tools, and other merchant workflows.

## Configure cancellation tags

1. In Memberply, open **Membership Tiers**.
2. Create a membership tier or click **Edit Tier** for an existing tier.
3. Find **Cancellation customer tags**.
4. Enter a tag, such as **Membership cancelled**.
5. To add more than one tag, separate them with commas, for example **Membership cancelled, Former VIP**.
6. Click **Save and Publish**.

The tags are separate from Memberply's internal membership tags and from the optional rejoin cooldown.

## When tags are added

Memberply adds the configured tags when the cancellation actually takes effect:

* An immediate cancellation receives the tags straight away.
* A cancellation at the end of the billing period receives the tags when the paid access period ends.
* A subscription cancelled directly through Shopify receives the tags when Memberply processes Shopify's update.

Scheduling an end-of-period cancellation does not add the tags early. Automatic benefit expiry and an initial order being cancelled are not treated as customer membership cancellations.

## Use a cancellation tag with Shopify Flow

Create a Shopify Flow workflow using a customer-tag trigger or condition, then match the exact tag configured in Memberply. For example, a workflow could notify your team, add the customer to a win-back process, or update another customer tag.

Memberply removes its configured cancellation tags when the customer rejoins the membership tier. This means a workflow based on the tag being added can trigger again after a later cancellation.
