Prevent cancelled members from rejoining immediately
A rejoin cooldown makes a former member wait before purchasing the same membership tier again. It can help prevent customers from joining only for an immediate discount or store credit benefit, cancelling, and then repeating the process for a later purchase.
Set the waiting period
In Memberply, open Membership Tiers.
Create a membership tier or click Edit Tier for an existing tier.
Find Rejoin cooldown (days).
Enter the number of days customers must wait, such as 30, 60, or 90.
Click Save and Publish.
Enter 0 to let former members rejoin without a waiting period.
When the waiting period starts
The waiting period starts when the customer's membership access actually ends:
For an immediate cancellation, the cooldown starts when the cancellation takes effect.
For a cancellation at the end of the billing period, the cooldown starts when the paid access period ends.
For a one-time membership with expiring access, the cooldown starts when that access expires.
For example, suppose a monthly VIP member cancels on 1 September, keeps access until 26 September, and the tier has a 90-day cooldown. The 90 days start on 26 September, not 1 September.
What customers see
Customers must sign in or create a customer account to purchase a tier that has a cooldown. This lets Memberply check whether the customer has previously cancelled that tier.
This account check also applies during scheduled open enrollment for an application-linked tier. Open enrollment removes the application approval requirement, but the configured rejoin waiting period remains in place.
If a former member tries to purchase the same tier before the eligible date, Shopify checkout blocks the purchase and shows the date when they can rejoin. The restriction applies to that membership tier only, so the customer can still purchase a different tier unless another rule prevents it.
Changing the cooldown to 0 disables the restriction for that tier.
