# Getting started

The fastest way to launch your membership is:

1. Create your first membership tier
2. Add 1 starter benefit
3. Publish your membership tier and enable subscription checkout
4. Enable member access to benefits
5. Test the end-to-end member experience

If you want a quick overview before launching, watch the intro video below. You can also skip it and come back later.

{% embed url="<https://dslg.wistia.com/medias/uaeggbwhug>" %}

\
You can also watch the quick demo video below to see one of the optional growth features you can add after launch.

{% embed url="<https://dslg.wistia.com/medias/dg0mggtiwa>" %}

The following pages are a quick start guide to getting you up and running quickly without overbuilding your setup on day one. They cover:

1. Creating your first membership tier
2. Adding a starter benefit
3. Publishing your membership tier and enabling subscription checkout
4. Enabling members to access their benefits
5. Optional ways to grow membership sign ups after launch

# Create your membership program

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

Start with a single membership tier so you can launch fast. You can always add more tiers later after your membership is live. In this step, choose how much members will pay, how often they will be charged, and what happens to benefits when they cancel.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/6pWuo8ILFJf090x7w8L2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, enter a name for your membership tier, for example **VIP Club**.

<figure><img src="/files/9kM1wksPUJ4WPcyYHeKh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Enter a description for your membership tier.

<figure><img src="/files/nsl1a37jDrQ2zTChYQJh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Add an image associated with your membership tier.

<figure><img src="/files/nrm3Ug474v46sVtnET4x" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Enter the price for your membership tier. If you want to keep launch simple, start with one clear offer and one simple price.

<figure><img src="/files/Usb6G3Sex0r5Q9Lhmq0G" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Select whether your membership fee will be charged monthly or yearly.

<figure><img src="/files/n65w9LHZ08OGKvTZyl88" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
Using a payment gateway that does not support Shopify subscriptions? Some gateways, such as Mercado Pago, Razorpay, PayTR, and some Klarna setups, do not support Shopify subscription billing. If that applies to your store, you can still run your membership using a one-time payment tier and renewal reminder emails. [See the workaround](https://help.memberply.com/how-to-offer-subscriptions-with-non-supported-payment-gateways-in-shopify).
{% endhint %}

7. Select what happens when a customer cancels their membership. Their benefits can either end immediately or at the end of the billing cycle.

<figure><img src="/files/XlHFOniWLswPQBY5efeF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Optional: add Shopify customer tags for this membership tier. These tags are added to customers when they become active members of this tier. Enter multiple tags separated by commas, for example **Gold member, VIP**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Memberply still manages its own internal customer tags and customer segment separately. Use your custom tags for your own Shopify workflows, automations, and customer segments.
{% endhint %}

9. Click **Save and Publish**.

<figure><img src="/files/jmaGDWWm83aQqzi6UrtL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. Click **View Published Product** to see your membership tier on your storefront.

<figure><img src="/files/cT8Fqj3M7l1Ohqm0XwOc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Add your exclusive rewards and benefits

**Setup time is approximately 5 minutes**

Here's where the magic happens! This is where you can add exclusive rewards and benefits for your paid members. This could include reward points for every purchase they make, free shipping, member discounts, access to locked content and much more.

1. Select which benefits you would like to offer for your membership program by clicking the toggle button on to enable the benefit. To disable the benefit, click the toggle button off.

<figure><img src="/files/0fM3yfVpMXobOJvgPHq6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Then to edit the settings for each benefit, click **Edit** for that benefit.

<figure><img src="/files/TVY6A6bs6GiRO2gFQgDf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. To see how to configure each membership benefit, [click here](/creating-membership-benefits/reward-points-benefit).

# Publish your membership tier and enable subscription checkout

**Setup time is approximately 4 minutes**

This step publishes your membership tier correctly on your storefront. If your tier is recurring, first enable the **Memberply Membership selling plans** app embed so Shopify receives the correct subscription selling plan when customers add the membership to cart. Then add the **Memberply Subscription Details** block so customers can see the membership billing option on the product page.

{% hint style="info" %}
If your store uses a payment gateway that does not support Shopify subscriptions, follow our alternative setup guide before launching your membership. [View the alternative setup guide](https://help.memberply.com/how-to-offer-subscriptions-with-non-supported-payment-gateways-in-shopify).
{% endhint %}

1. In the Shopify dashboard, from the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. In the top left corner, click **App embeds**.
4. Enable **Memberply Membership selling plans**.
5. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

{% hint style="info" %}
This app embed does not add anything visible to your storefront. It works in the background so recurring membership products are added to cart with the correct Shopify selling plan, including AJAX product forms, quick views, and dynamic product sections.
{% endhint %}

6. From the dropdown list at the top, select **Products** and then **Default product**, or the product template used by your membership product.

<figure><img src="/files/UPzY1cKFaoSqYBqPjRn1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/lezQMhy0ugvNJsToDlXP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. In the left sidebar, under **Product information**, click **Add block**.

<figure><img src="/files/3BwhN9NRRE6yu7ta6kz9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Click **Apps** and then click **Memberply Subscription Details**.

<figure><img src="/files/PCoWqZqXXzzZ2bCScDC3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

9. Drag **Memberply Subscription Details** up to just underneath **Price**.

<figure><img src="/files/nvjQhTlx8fPG3VU5UyYi" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. On the right side, customize **Memberply Subscription Details** to your needs.

<figure><img src="/files/tnDjv5CrBUFir0ArCNoK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

11. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

<figure><img src="/files/B8zySIpCP7JGLFYPOUjB" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
If your store uses Shopify Markets and the membership product page works in one currency but shows a 404 in another, make sure the membership product is available in that market. [Make membership products available in Shopify Markets](/creating-your-membership-tiers/make-membership-products-available-in-shopify-markets).
{% endhint %}

# Enable members to access their benefits (customer accounts)

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

This is the final launch step for stores using customer accounts. Add a link to the Memberply benefits page from your customer's account area so members can access their rewards and benefits, then test the experience once it is live.

{% hint style="info" %}
This applies if you are using customer accounts, which you can find in your store settings as shown below.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/Mjyl8qqFMACcIEihK2ep" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. From the dropdown list at the top, select Checkout and customer accounts.

<figure><img src="/files/OIdOphfO20y4EUh2K1FK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. On the left side, click the **Apps** icon.

<figure><img src="/files/C0wSV9sZVuSg75OHIgSZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Under the **All** tab, find **Memberply membership-benefits-page** and click the plus button on its right side.

<figure><img src="/files/r2ABCYwwPelCs7JUahOt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Under **Add page to**, click **Accounts**.

<figure><img src="/files/mAFfOclwUE8n2JBrcved" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. Click **Save**.

<figure><img src="/files/N1UxKTlX22iA2EzxkEEW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Click **Add to menu**.

<figure><img src="/files/dkiaxcSlE5BGxONId4zv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

9. Under Label, change it to say Membership Benefits.

<figure><img src="/files/ga250CKKAs9I775Mxikn" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. Click **Save**.

<figure><img src="/files/jozdR6MPY1yOyFagvaZj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

11. Now when a member logs into their customer account area, they will see a membership benefits page with all their rewards and benefits.

<figure><img src="/files/2o1SRGEpXxSdvIVTnOIZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Why the Members Area styling is limited in customer accounts

For stores using Shopify's new customer accounts, the Members Area cannot be styled in the same way as a normal storefront page.

This is because the Members Area is rendered inside Shopify's customer account environment, not directly inside your theme. Shopify controls the overall styling system in this area and only allows approved UI components to be used. This means apps like Memberply can build the experience using Shopify's components, but cannot freely apply custom fonts, custom CSS, or fully custom colour styling in the same way they can on a regular website page.

In practical terms, this means:

* We can control the layout and structure of the content.
* We can improve spacing, hierarchy, and how information is presented.
* We cannot fully override Shopify's built-in styling rules for things like fonts, component appearance, and brand colour control in that area.

This limitation comes from Shopify's platform restrictions rather than from Memberply itself. Shopify applies these restrictions to keep the customer account experience consistent, secure, and reliable across stores and devices.

While the area is not fully styleable, we have optimised the Members Area to fit in cleanly with any brand and to feel native within Shopify's customer account experience.

# Enable members to access their benefits (legacy customer accounts)

**Setup time is approximately 5 minutes**

This is the final launch step for stores using legacy customer accounts. It takes a little longer than the new customer accounts flow because you need to add both the Member Login component and the Access Membership Link component before testing the member experience.

{% hint style="info" %}
This applies if you are using legacy customer accounts, which you can find in your store settings as shown below.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/wJBro5RHRyq8tukNvhCS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. From the dropdown list at the top, select Classic customer accounts.

<figure><img src="/files/VTzFRwlMaQHg3wwsuWur" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Then select Customer login.

<figure><img src="/files/9lD6zoPoLcHDVmpSM9OH" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. On the right side, click **Add section** to template.

<figure><img src="/files/whdDnG868eLPHx8gODli" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Click **Apps** and then click **Memberply Member Login**.

<figure><img src="/files/LoYFMXSo3hD6ZBCAihNj" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. Customize **Memberply Member Login** to your needs.

<figure><img src="/files/b2eGGcW8fgUbgVZLK0oR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

# Grow your membership

Memberply can promote your membership product exactly where a customer's buying intent is the highest - by displaying it on the product pages, the cart page, and with a floating membership widget. This increases the visibility of your membership and encourages more sign-ups.

Most customers will not hunt for a membership page - but they will consider joining when they clearly see the value before they buy. By showing your membership benefits directly on product pages, the cart page, and a floating widget that can appear across your storefront, you capture customers while they are already shopping.

Watch the quick intro video below to get a 30,000-foot view on how it all works. Then follow each of the steps in this section to get it up and running starting with **Select a membership tier as the upsell offer.**

{% embed url="<https://dslg.wistia.com/medias/dg0mggtiwa>" %}

This is what the floating widget looks like:

<figure><img src="/files/43OsIzyLqtv4egiU5bhV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/L9Qdkw3HLLUTvMqSFNJ8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Select a membership tier as the upsell offer

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

The first step is to select the membership tier that you want to be offered as the upsell.

1. Select the membership tier that you want to offer as an upsell and click Edit.

<figure><img src="/files/bhGADkkH2ec4eWViaMOu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Now go down to the Product Page and View Cart Page Upsell (Optional) section.
3. Click the checkbox 'Use this membership tier for the product page and view cart page upsell'.

<figure><img src="/files/pYXYgqkDmpsJwdQHbFQg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Click **Save and Publish**.

# Offer a free first month (optional)

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

Give customers a risk-free way to try your membership by offering the first month free.\
Note that only a membership billed monthly or both monthly and yearly can offer the first month free.

1. Select the membership tier that you want to offer as an upsell and click Edit.

<figure><img src="/files/bhGADkkH2ec4eWViaMOu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Select **Offer the first month free?**.

<figure><img src="/files/6Nk5IAfu0RsCHDxcm6MZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Click **Save and Publish**.

# Create a member discount benefit

**Setup time is approximately 2 minutes**

The member discount benefit is what triggers the incentive for a customer to join your membership program.

1. Select the membership tier that will contain the member discount benefit and click Edit Benefits.

<figure><img src="/files/G3ExfcrFVCjasjQmnTbh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Toggle the member discount to Enabled.

<figure><img src="/files/Viiyg5qw0C5SCqZEWBcy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Click **Edit** to edit the member discount.

<figure><img src="/files/k4DPIJ6IMffmSry5eTvL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Fill out the settings for your member discount.

<figure><img src="/files/WVgkW2sRYKxvuvdDAl9A" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. If there are products or collections that should not receive the member discount, add them under **Product exclusions**. Leave this blank if the discount should apply to all eligible products and collections.
6. Click **Save**.

Please note:

* Member discounts apply to all eligible products and collections by default.
* Products and collections added under **Product exclusions** will not receive the member discount.
* Product page and cart page upsell pricing respects these exclusions, so excluded products should not be promoted with member pricing.

# Enable product page upsell

**Setup time is approximately 3 minutes**

This shows an upsell section on the product page promoting your membership program.

## What happens when a customer accepts the offer?

1. The customer selects **Member Price**. This prepares the membership offer, but does not add anything to the cart yet.
2. When the customer clicks your store's normal **Add to cart** button, Memberply adds both the product and the selected membership tier to the cart. Any products already in the cart stay there.
3. Shopify recalculates the cart and automatically applies the member discount to eligible products.
4. If the tier includes free shipping, Shopify applies it when its conditions are met and shipping rates are calculated, which is normally at checkout.
5. If you have [made the first month free](/how-to-skyrocket-the-number-of-members-joining-your-membership/offer-a-free-first-month-optional) for an eligible monthly tier, the customer pays nothing for the membership today, receives their membership benefits straight away, and sees when their first paid renewal will be charged. This gives them an extra reason to join by removing the initial membership cost.

Member discount exclusions, minimum-spend rules and other benefit conditions still apply. Memberply also prevents the same membership from being added twice.

If your member discount benefit has product or collection exclusions, the product page upsell will respect those exclusions. Excluded products should not show member pricing in the upsell section.

<figure><img src="/files/0d0KY0YWzcv5vJ2AJDia" alt="Example of the Memberply Product Page Upsell showing standard and member pricing on a Shopify product page"><figcaption><p>Product Page Upsell shows the membership offer while a shopper is viewing a product.</p></figcaption></figure>

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. From the dropdown list at the top, select **Products**.
4. Select the product template you want to update.
5. Under **Product information**, click **Add section**, select **Apps**, and add **Product Page Upsell**.
6. Move the block to the required position, edit its content and styling, then click **Save**.

## Have lots of product templates? Use the global app embed

If your store has many product templates and you want to manage the widget design in one place, use **Global Product Upsell**. Changes made to the embed are applied across all product templates.

1. Remove or disable the manually placed **Product Page Upsell** block from each product template where you want the global embed to appear.
2. In the theme editor, open **Theme settings** and select **App embeds**.
3. Enable **Global Product Upsell**.
4. Choose a position such as **Above the product form**, **Below the product form**, **Above the buy buttons**, or **Below the buy buttons**.
5. If none of the standard positions works with your theme, select **Custom (advanced)** and enter a CSS selector.
6. Configure the widget content and styling. The embed provides the same settings as the manually placed block.
7. Click **Save**.

Manually placed blocks take priority. If a product template still contains a **Product Page Upsell** block, the global app embed will not display a duplicate widget on that page.

# Enable cart page upsell

**Setup time is approximately 3 minutes**

This shows an upsell section on the full cart page promoting your membership program.

## What happens when a customer accepts the offer?

The result depends on which cart option the customer uses:

* With **Cart Page Upsell**, clicking **Join Now and Save** adds the selected membership tier to the existing cart and refreshes the cart so the customer can review everything before checking out.
* With **VIP Checkout+**, clicking the membership checkout button adds the selected membership tier to the existing cart and takes the customer directly to checkout.

In both cases, the products already in the cart remain there. Shopify then recalculates the cart and automatically applies the member discount to eligible products. If the membership includes free shipping, Shopify applies it when its conditions are met and shipping rates are calculated, which is normally at checkout.

## Choose your cart coverage

Choose one of these three setups:

### 1. Cart Page Upsell only

Displays a promotional membership card on the full cart page. When the shopper joins, Memberply adds the membership and refreshes the cart so they can review it before checking out. It does **not** appear in the cart drawer.

<figure><img src="/files/wSEzn1yKQmC7BxR7cmxp" alt="Example of the Memberply Cart Page Upsell membership card on a full Shopify cart page"><figcaption><p>Cart Page Upsell appears on the full cart page only.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 2. VIP Checkout+ only

Displays an alternative membership checkout button in both the cart drawer and on the full cart page. When clicked, it adds the membership and takes the shopper directly to checkout.

<figure><img src="/files/QTlwWQaHz2JIgT44IqIU" alt="Example of VIP Checkout Plus beneath the normal Shopify checkout button with membership benefits and pricing"><figcaption><p>VIP Checkout+ can appear in the cart drawer and on the full cart page.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 3. Cart Page Upsell + VIP Checkout+ — Recommended

Use this when your store has both a cart drawer and a full cart page. Cart Page Upsell appears on the full cart page and VIP Checkout+ appears in the cart drawer. Memberply automatically prevents VIP Checkout+ from showing as a second membership offer on the full cart page.

Shopify themes structure cart drawers differently, so test both the drawer and full cart page before publishing.

If your member discount benefit has product or collection exclusions, the cart page upsell will respect those exclusions. Excluded cart items should not be promoted with member pricing.

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. From the dropdown list at the top, select **Cart**.

<figure><img src="/files/yXnm5kbzXl11iNdtjEnn" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. In the left sidebar, click **Add section**. Click **Apps** and then click **Cart Page Upsell**.

<figure><img src="/files/joLdJDZtVQtjbbNGroV2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Move **Cart Page Upsell** above the checkout button, or to where it fits best. Then edit any settings as required.

<figure><img src="/files/6Ypsy6Uvbrl7cexR5McD" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Click **Save**.

## Enable VIP Checkout+ for cart drawers and cart pages

VIP Checkout+ adds a second checkout button beneath the store's normal checkout button. It lists customizable membership benefits and displays the selected upsell tier's current price. When a shopper clicks it, Memberply adds the membership product to the cart and continues directly to checkout, where eligible membership benefits are applied.

VIP Checkout+ uses the same membership tier selected for the product-page and cart-page upsells. If the Cart Page Upsell is already present on the full cart page, VIP Checkout+ will not add a second membership offer beside that page's checkout button. It will still appear in the cart drawer, so both features can safely be enabled together.

1. In the Shopify theme editor, open **Theme settings**.
2. Select **App embeds**.
3. Enable **VIP Checkout+**.
4. Customize the button text, button colours, benefit icons, benefit text and other styling settings. Membership pricing is loaded automatically from Memberply and cannot be entered manually here.
5. Click **Save**.

The app embed automatically looks for checkout buttons in both cart drawers and cart pages. Because Shopify themes structure their carts differently, test both experiences in your theme before publishing.

# Enable the floating membership widget

The floating membership widget helps shoppers discover your membership program from any page on your storefront. It appears as a small floating badge, with **Perks** as the default badge text. When a shopper clicks it, a panel opens showing your enabled membership tiers and the benefits available in each tier.

This step is optional, but recommended once you have created at least one enabled membership tier.

This is what the floating widget looks like:

<figure><img src="/files/43OsIzyLqtv4egiU5bhV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/L9Qdkw3HLLUTvMqSFNJ8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Before you start

Make sure you have already:

1. Created and enabled at least one membership tier.
2. Added the benefits you want customers to see.
3. Published your membership tier product on your storefront.

If you do not have any enabled membership tiers, the floating widget will stay hidden.

## Add the widget to your theme

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.
2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.
3. In the top left corner, click **App embeds**.
4. Enable **Memberply Floating Membership Widget**.
5. Click the arrow caret on the left of **Memberply Floating Membership Widget** to open its settings.
6. Customize the badge text, heading, intro text, colors, and left or right position if needed.
7. Click **Save**.

## What shoppers will see

The widget shows:

* A floating **Perks** badge by default.
* A panel promoting your membership program.
* Enabled membership tiers.
* Pricing for each tier.
* Enabled benefits for each tier.
* A sign-in link for existing members.

If a shopper is already an active member, their current tier appears first and is marked as their current tier.

## Notes

The widget is designed to fail safely. If your store has no enabled membership tiers or the widget cannot load the membership data, it will not appear on the storefront.

# Membership tiers

Memberply allows you to create and manage multiple membership tiers for your store, each offering unique access, benefits, and pricing options. You can create as many membership tiers as you want.

You can set up completely free tiers, one-time-payment tiers, or recurring subscription tiers, giving you flexibility to monetize your store in the way that best suits your business model.

# Create a membership tier

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

The first step is to create your membership tier. You can create as many membership tiers as you would like.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Add New Membership Tier**.

<figure><img src="/files/16PUuZXLxmJWXHymo1F3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. On the right side, enter a name for your membership tier, for example **VIP Club**.

<figure><img src="/files/s3mle0PkDlDtvPB6kpjX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Enter a description for your membership tier.

<figure><img src="/files/iO17tsptwdoiOCM7UwwG" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Select how you would like to charge members for this membership tier. You can offer it for free, as a one-time payment, monthly, yearly, or let the customer choose between monthly and yearly.

{% hint style="info" %}
Once you click **Save and Publish**, the billing frequency is locked to protect existing members. You can update everything else, but if you need to change this locked setting, create a new membership tier and remove or disable the old one.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/ORC0rv2jevcQ6KummqZL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. If this is a paid membership tier, enter the membership cost.

{% hint style="info" %}
Once you click **Save and Publish**, the membership cost is locked to protect existing members. You can update everything else, but if you need to change this locked setting, create a new membership tier and remove or disable the old one.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/rgmFLodggvPal2zWBg6r" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. Optional: you can also charge an additional joining fee on top of the membership cost. This is only charged once when the member first joins.

<figure><img src="/files/yCIBinFBIGuuN8ewGjfd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Optional: add Shopify customer tags for this membership tier. These tags are added to customers when they become active members of this tier. Enter multiple tags separated by commas, for example **Gold member, VIP**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Memberply still manages its own internal customer tags and customer segment separately. Use your custom tags for your own Shopify workflows, automations, and customer segments.
{% endhint %}

9. Select what happens when a customer cancels their membership. Their benefits will either end at the end of their billing cycle or immediately.

<figure><img src="/files/ptt1j7fs9KiEgxgh9fxr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. Click **Save and Publish**.

<figure><img src="/files/gWYYI1QVJtOgkeMpamOK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

11. Once you have saved your membership tier, click **View Published Product** to see the membership product on your storefront.

<figure><img src="/files/0pOcSR7jQnSEFeB3GaHX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Updating an existing membership tier

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

To update an existing membership tier, follow the steps below.

{% hint style="info" %}
To update an existing membership tier, the membership tier must be enabled. If it is not enabled, turn on the toggle first.
{% endhint %}

Once the membership tier is enabled, the **Edit** button becomes active.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, make sure the membership tier is enabled. If it is not, enable it with the toggle.

<figure><img src="/files/0BGG5yGJ55QcnqhRp7M7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Click **Edit**.

<figure><img src="/files/dnh8MAHHHWaZtqvpKcNd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. You can now update your existing membership tier.

{% hint style="info" %}
The settings **How would you like to charge members** and **How much will your membership cost** are locked to protect existing members. You can update everything else, but if you need to change these locked settings, create a new membership tier and remove or disable the old one.
{% endhint %}

You can also add or update optional Shopify customer tags for the tier. These tags are added to active members of the tier and can be used for your own Shopify workflows, automations, and customer segments. Enter multiple tags separated by commas, for example **Gold member, VIP**.

{% hint style="info" %}
When you change the custom customer tags for a tier, Memberply updates existing active members on that tier. Memberply's own internal tags and customer segment are still managed separately.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/x68xCjNrGdUMn2rPHa33" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Once you have finished updating your membership tier, click **Save and Publish**.

<figure><img src="/files/wRvctCjTa0J6vXgjtc5X" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Disable a membership tier

**Setup time is approximately 30 seconds**

When you disable a membership tier, the membership tier product still exists in your store. However, Memberply removes the product from the online store channel, which means your customers won't be able to see it on your store and therefore won't be able to purchase it.

If you enable the membership tier again, then Memberply will publish it to the online store and customers will then be able to purchase it again.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, find the membership tier you want to disable and toggle it to **Disabled**.

<figure><img src="/files/CB7H8AfuCgyThihmcN2v" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Delete a membership tier

**Setup time is approximately 30 seconds**

When you delete a membership tier, the membership tier product is completely deleted from your store. Also Memberply will also remove all associated members and benefits from the membership tier.

If you want to keep all existing members for that membership tier, we recommend [simply disabling the membership tier instead.](/creating-your-membership-tiers/quickstart-2)

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, find the membership tier you want to delete and click **Delete**.

<figure><img src="/files/d6YFzwprinW0aNf8OAfW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# How to add a joining fee to your membership tier

You can also charge an additional joining fee on top of the membership cost. This is purely optional and is only charged once when the member first joins, on top of the membership cost.

**Setup time is approximately 1 minute**

The first step is to create your membership tier. You can create as many membership tiers as you would like.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Add New Membership Tier**

<figure><img src="/files/16PUuZXLxmJWXHymo1F3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. On the right side, enter the details of your membership tier.

<figure><img src="/files/s3mle0PkDlDtvPB6kpjX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Now this is where you can charge an additional joining fee on top of the membership cost. This is purely optional and is only charged once when the member first joins, on top of the membership cost.

<figure><img src="/files/yCIBinFBIGuuN8ewGjfd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Click the Save and Publish button.

<figure><img src="/files/gWYYI1QVJtOgkeMpamOK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Publish your membership tier and enable subscription checkout

**Setup time is approximately 4 minutes**

This step connects Memberply to your storefront and product page. If your membership tier is recurring, first enable the **Memberply Membership selling plans** app embed so Shopify receives the correct subscription selling plan when customers add the membership to cart. Then add the **Memberply Subscription Details** block so customers can see the membership billing option and price on the product page.

1. In the Shopify dashboard, from the left sidebar, click **Themes**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ly0hCau8vOKwDPf5IAH6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.

<figure><img src="/files/Mim4TrSmK1IvxtDOyYxc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. In the top left corner, click **App embeds**.
4. Enable **Memberply Membership selling plans**.
5. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

{% hint style="info" %}
This app embed does not add anything visible to your storefront. It works in the background so recurring membership products are added to cart with the correct Shopify selling plan, including AJAX product forms, quick views, and dynamic product sections.
{% endhint %}

6. From the dropdown list at the top, select **Products** and then **Default product**, or the product template used by your membership product.

<figure><img src="/files/UPzY1cKFaoSqYBqPjRn1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/lezQMhy0ugvNJsToDlXP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. In the left sidebar, under **Product information**, click **Add block**.

<figure><img src="/files/3BwhN9NRRE6yu7ta6kz9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Click **Apps** and then click **Memberply Subscription Details**.

<figure><img src="/files/PCoWqZqXXzzZ2bCScDC3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

9. Drag **Memberply Subscription Details** up to just underneath **Price**.

<figure><img src="/files/nvjQhTlx8fPG3VU5UyYi" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. On the right side, customize **Memberply Subscription Details** to your needs.

<figure><img src="/files/tnDjv5CrBUFir0ArCNoK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

11. Click **Save** in the top right corner.

<figure><img src="/files/B8zySIpCP7JGLFYPOUjB" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
If your store uses Shopify Markets and the membership product page works in one currency but shows a 404 in another, make sure the membership product is available in that market. [Make membership products available in Shopify Markets](/creating-your-membership-tiers/make-membership-products-available-in-shopify-markets).
{% endhint %}

# Make membership products available in Shopify Markets

If your store uses Shopify Markets, a membership product must be available in the market a customer is browsing from. If the membership product is only available in one market, customers browsing from another market may see a 404 page when they open the membership product page.

For example, if the membership product is only published to your USD market, the product page may work when the customer selects USD but show a 404 when the customer selects another market or currency.

## Choose the markets for a membership tier

1. In Memberply, go to **Membership Tiers**.
2. Click **Edit Tier** for the membership tier you want to update.
3. Find the **Markets availability** section.
4. Select the Shopify markets where this membership tier should be available.
5. Click **Update Markets**.

Memberply publishes the membership product to the selected Shopify market catalogs. After the update, customers in those markets should be able to open the membership product page.

{% hint style="info" %}
If your store only has one Shopify market, there are no additional markets to select. Memberply will show the market status, but no market selector is needed.
{% endhint %}

## What Memberply controls

Memberply can publish or unpublish the membership product in Shopify market catalogs. This controls whether the membership product is available in the markets you select.

## What Shopify still controls

Shopify still controls your market setup, including:

* Which markets exist in your Shopify admin.
* Which currencies, domains, and languages are enabled for each market.
* Whether subscription-only products are allowed in a market.

If Shopify blocks a subscription-only membership product in a market, Memberply will show the error returned by Shopify. In that case, review the market and subscription settings in Shopify admin.

## Troubleshooting

If customers see a 404 page for a membership product in one market but not another:

1. Check which market or currency the customer selected.
2. Edit the membership tier in Memberply.
3. In **Markets availability**, make sure that market is selected.
4. Click **Update Markets**.
5. Test the membership product page again using that market or currency.

If the market is selected but the product still does not appear, check the market setup in Shopify admin and look for any Shopify error shown by Memberply.

# Enable membership selling plans for quick add and quick view

The **Memberply Membership selling plans** app embed should be enabled for recurring membership products. It is part of the standard storefront setup because Shopify requires recurring products to be added to cart with a selling plan.

The app embed is especially important when Shopify themes let customers add products to cart from places outside the main product page, such as:

* collection product cards
* quick add buttons
* quick view popups
* custom membership landing pages

The **Memberply Subscription Details** block shows the visible purchase option UI on the membership product page. The **Membership selling plans** app embed works in the background and makes sure add-to-cart requests include the correct Shopify selling plan.

## When to use this

Enable this app embed for recurring membership tiers. It is also the first thing to check if:

* customers see an error when using quick add or quick view
* the membership product does not add to cart correctly from a collection, landing page, or product card
* your theme displays membership products in product grids with an Add to cart button
* your theme has quick view popups for membership products

## Add the app embed to your theme

1. In the Shopify dashboard, on the left sidebar, click **Themes**.
2. On the right side, click **Customize** next to your theme.
3. In the top left corner, click **App embeds**.
4. Enable **Memberply Membership selling plans**.
5. Click **Save**.

This app embed does not add anything visible to your storefront and does not need any extra settings. It works in the background when a customer clicks an add-to-cart button for a membership product.

## Important note

You should still keep the **Memberply Subscription Details** block on your membership product page.

The **Membership selling plans** app embed does not display purchase options or subscription details. It only makes sure add-to-cart buttons include the correct Shopify selling plan.

9. Under **Product exclusions**, optionally search for products or collections that should not receive the member discount. Leave this blank if the member discount should apply to all eligible products and collections.

The exclusion list is useful if most of your catalog should receive the member discount, but some products, collections, gift cards, bundles, or low-margin items should be excluded.

10. Click **Save**.

<figure><img src="/files/sy0xtyeviDm8XMEQ0Z4p" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* The member discount is applied automatically at checkout when the customer is logged in as a member.
* The customer must be an active member of the membership tier that has this member discount benefit enabled.
* Products and collections added under **Product exclusions** will not receive the member discount.
* Product page and cart page upsell pricing also respects product exclusions, so excluded products should not show member pricing.

## Combine a member discount with Buy X Get Y

Memberply applies the member saving as an order discount so it can combine with Shopify product promotions such as Buy X Get Y. Shopify requires both discounts to allow the other discount's class.

To combine them:

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Discounts**.
2. Open the Buy X Get Y discount.
3. In **Combinations**, allow it to combine with **Order discounts**.
4. Save the discount and test the combination before using it with customers.

Shopify applies the Buy X Get Y product discount first, then calculates the Memberply member discount from the revised eligible order subtotal. Memberply product and collection exclusions remain excluded from that subtotal.

Combining these discounts does not require Shopify Plus. In Shopify POS, automatic discount combinations require a POS Pro location.

# Cashback benefit

Cashback is a reward that returns part of a member's purchase as store credit. For example, a member who spends $100 with 5% cashback earns $5 in store credit they can use on their next order - encouraging them to shop again.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are using customer accounts, store credit is delivered automatically to the customer account when the customer logs into your store. They can use it as a payment method at checkout.
{% endhint %}

If you are using legacy customer accounts, the store credit will be delivered automatically as a discount code in their member portal area. To use the store credit, the customer just has to purchase their items and then when they are on the checkout page, apply the discount codes.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you are using customer accounts, enable Store Credit on your store. [Follow the Store Credit setup instructions](/members-area/enabling-native-store-credit).

11. Click **Save**.

<figure><img src="/files/rvIx4KEJAKev88eEKnyT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Please note:

* Member spend is tracked across all products over the calendar year.

10. Optionally upload an Offer image.

12. Optionally choose an Offer expiry date if the offer should only be available until a certain date.

Once saved, these partner offers are displayed in the members area for members on that membership tier. Members will see the partner name, the offer details, how to redeem it, the offer expiry date if you set one, and any optional images or extra offer information you added.

# Events benefit

Create member-only events and show them inside your members area. Events can be free RSVP-only events, or paid events that link to a Shopify product used as the event ticket.

Use this benefit when you want members to discover upcoming workshops, launches, in-store events, online sessions, previews, meetups, or other member-only experiences.

## What members can do

Members can view eligible events in the members area.

For free events, members can RSVP as:

* Going
* Maybe
* Not going

If the event has a capacity and all spots are taken, members who are not already marked as Going will no longer see the Going button. If the waitlist is enabled, they will see Join waitlist instead.

For paid events, members can buy a ticket from your Shopify store. When a member purchases the event ticket product, Memberply marks them as Going automatically. Members can still RSVP as Maybe or Not going if they are interested but have not purchased a ticket.

## Before you start

If you want to create a paid event, first create a Shopify product for the event ticket. This product is what members will buy to attend the event.

For example, you could create a Shopify product called VIP Styling Night Ticket or Member Workshop Ticket.

You can use Shopify's product inventory settings if you want to limit the number of tickets available.

## How to add the Events benefit

1. From the main menu, click **Benefits**.

<figure><img src="/files/f8gvx7PRMEFTRVJfCQQQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Find the membership tier you want to add this benefit to and click **Edit Benefits**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ray9MmxnfmIgetmt4auh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Find the Events row and toggle the Events benefit to Enabled.
4. Click **Edit**.
5. Click Add event.
6. Enter the Event title. This is the name members will see in the members area.
7. Enter the Location. This can be an in-store location, venue address, or online event link.
8. Select the Start date and time.
9. Optionally select the End date and time.
10. Enter the Description. Use this to tell members what to expect, what is included, and how to prepare.
11. Choose the Visibility:
    * All active members: any active member can see the event.
    * Only this membership tier: only members on this membership tier can see the event.
12. Optionally enter a Capacity if you want to limit how many members can be marked as Going.
13. Optionally enable the waitlist. When capacity is reached, members who are not already marked as Going will see Join waitlist instead of Going.
14. Choose the Event type:
    * Free event: members can RSVP directly as Going, Maybe, or Not going.
    * Paid event: members must buy a Shopify ticket product to be counted as Going.
15. If you choose Paid event, search for and select the Shopify ticket product.
16. Repeat the process and add as many events as you need.
17. Click **Save**.

## Paid events

For paid events, always select the Shopify product using the product search field. Do not use a manually typed product URL.

Memberply uses the selected Shopify product to detect when a member purchases a ticket. When the member completes checkout for that product, Memberply updates their RSVP for that event to Going.

If the member previously selected Maybe or Not going, their RSVP will be updated to Going after the ticket purchase is recorded.

When you save a paid event, Memberply automatically adds the selected ticket product to the Exclusive Product Access list for that membership tier. This helps prevent non-members from accessing or purchasing the ticket product directly.

## Capacity and waitlists

Capacity controls how many members can be marked as Going for a free event.

When capacity is reached:

* Members who are already marked as Going continue to see their Going RSVP.
* Members who are not marked as Going no longer see the Going button.
* If waitlist is enabled, those members see Join waitlist and are notified by email as soon as a spot becomes available.
* If waitlist is not enabled, those members can still choose Maybe or Not going.

If a member who was Going changes their RSVP to Maybe or Not going, this can create a new available spot. Memberply checks for waitlist openings automatically and can email waitlisted members when a spot becomes available.

## Notifications and reminders

The Events benefit includes optional emails for event announcements, reminders, and waitlist openings.

In the Notifications and reminders section, you can enable or disable:

* New event announcement email
* First reminder email
* Second reminder email
* Final reminder email
* Event waitlist opening email

For reminder emails, set how many hours before the event each reminder should be sent.

You can edit the email copy by clicking Edit email from the Events benefit page, or by going to the Emails page.

The event waitlist opening email is sent to waitlisted members when capacity becomes available again. Memberply checks for openings automatically in the background. The background job runs hourly, at 15 minutes past the hour.

## What members see

Once saved, eligible members will see the event in the members area.

Free events show RSVP buttons for Going, Maybe, and Not going.

If a free event is full, members who are not already Going will not see Going. If waitlist is enabled, they will see Join waitlist.

Paid events show a Buy ticket button. Members are told that purchasing the ticket marks them as Going, while Maybe and Not going remain available as RSVP options.

## Notes

Events are designed for member-only experiences inside your Shopify membership program. Shopify still handles checkout, payment, and ticket product inventory for paid events. Memberply handles event visibility, RSVP status, member display, and event email notifications.

# Monthly Free Product benefit

Give active members a product to claim for free during each calendar month. In the merchant admin this benefit is called **Monthly Free Product**. Members see it in the Members Area as **This Month's Free Gift**.

## Configure the benefit

1. From the Memberply menu, select **Benefits**.
2. Choose a membership tier and click **Edit Benefits**.
3. Enable **Monthly Free Product**, then click **Edit**.
4. Enter the required name and description.
5. Set the **Monthly free-item limit per member**. This is the maximum number of free items each member can receive from this benefit in one calendar month. The default is **1**.
6. Under **Monthly gift schedule**, search for and select a Shopify product or collection for the current month.
7. Optionally schedule gifts for future months, then click **Save**.

The schedule covers January through December and repeats in the following calendar year. Review and update it before the next year if you want to offer different gifts.

## What members experience

Eligible active members see **This Month's Free Gift** in the Members Area, including the product or collection name, image when available, description and a **Claim now** button.

The gift is available in both supported member experiences: Shopify's new customer accounts Memberply page and the Memberply dashboard used with legacy customer accounts.

When a member claims the gift, Memberply creates a customer-specific Shopify discount that:

* is restricted to that Shopify customer;
* discounts the configured quantity by 100%;
* applies only to the selected product or collection;
* can be used once; and
* expires at the end of the month in the shop's Shopify time zone.

The member is taken to the selected product or collection. After they add an eligible item to their cart, the gift discount is applied automatically. Members do not need to copy or enter a discount code. If the gift is a product, all of that product's variants are eligible. If it is a collection, the member can choose an available product from that collection.

## Important behavior

* A member can receive only one claim for a tier in each calendar month, even if you change the selected gift during that month.
* Cancelling and rejoining does not create another claim for the same month.
* Expired gifts are no longer displayed or claimable.
* Deleted, unpublished or out-of-stock products are hidden from the Members Area.
* Products used as Memberply membership tiers are excluded from gift selection.
* The gift item is free, but shipping is still charged unless another free-shipping benefit or Shopify shipping promotion applies.
* Members must complete Shopify checkout for products that require shipping.

# Member referral program

Member referrals let active members invite friends to join your membership program. Each eligible member receives a personal referral link. When a new customer follows that link and purchases an eligible membership, Memberply attributes the referral and automatically rewards the referring member.

## Before you begin

You need at least one active membership tier.

If you want to reward members with points, enable and configure the **Reward Points** benefit on every tier whose members can refer friends.

If you want to reward members with store credit and use Shopify customer accounts, [enable Shopify native store credit](/members-area/enabling-native-store-credit). Stores using legacy customer accounts receive the reward as a Memberply discount code instead.

## Configure referrals

1. In Memberply, open **Member Referrals** from the main menu or the Membership Benefits page.
2. Select the membership tiers whose active members can refer friends.
3. Choose the reward:
   * **Reward points** awards a fixed whole number of points.
   * **Store credit** awards a fixed amount in your store currency.
4. Enter the reward amount.
5. Choose whether the referring member should receive their reward immediately when the referred customer becomes active, or only after the referred customer's first successful membership payment.
6. Turn the referral program on and click **Save changes**.

This qualification setting controls when the referring member receives their referral reward. It applies to the referred customer's membership, not the referring member's own membership payments. Choose **As soon as the referred friend becomes an active member** to issue the reward when the referred customer becomes active. Choose **After the referred friend's first successful membership payment** to keep a free-trial or zero-value recurring signup pending until Memberply receives the referred customer's first successful payment.

For example, Alex refers Sam. With **As soon as the referred friend becomes an active member**, Alex receives the reward as soon as Sam becomes an active member. With **After the referred friend's first successful membership payment**, Alex receives the reward only after Sam's payment succeeds. Alex's own membership payments do not affect either outcome.

## How attribution works

Eligible members can see what they will earn for each successful referral and copy their personal link from the Memberply area in either Shopify customer accounts or legacy customer accounts. The member area also explains whether the reward is issued when the referred customer becomes active or after the referred customer's first successful membership payment.

The link opens the eligible membership product page. Memberply securely stores the referral attribution and carries it into the membership order as a private Shopify line-item property. Attribution lasts for 30 days, and the latest valid referral link visited by the customer takes precedence.

A member cannot refer themselves. Memberply also prevents the same new member or membership order from producing duplicate referral rewards.

## Reward delivery and reporting

Memberply processes qualified rewards automatically. Points are added to the member's Memberply points balance. Store credit is added to Shopify customer accounts or delivered as a discount code for legacy customer accounts.

The **Referral activity** section shows total referrals, referrals awaiting rewards, completed rewards, issued point and store-credit totals, and rewards that need review.

Definitive temporary failures are retried automatically. If Shopify receives a store-credit request but its final outcome cannot be confirmed, Memberply holds the reward for review instead of risking duplicate credit.

Rewards that have already been delivered are not automatically removed if the referred membership is later refunded. Handle exceptional clawbacks manually after reviewing the customer history.

**Setup time is approximately 2 minutes**

# Members area

The following pages go through everything associated with the members area including:

1. How to enable Shopify's native store credit. This is important if you're using any of the membership retention benefits like loyalty drops or fee to store credit benefits.
2. Enabling members to access their benefits
3. Why the Members Area can't be fully styled when using Shopify's new customer accounts

# Enabling native store credit

If you're using customer accounts, the following steps allow your customers to use native store credit for your store. This is really important in order for the benefits to work properly.

When store credit is enabled on your store, Memberply will automatically deliver a benefit's store credit into a customer's account when they log into your store. The customer can then use this store credit as a form of payment on the checkout page.

This is what it looks like from a customer's viewpoint:

### Your customer can see their store credit in their customer account:

<figure><img src="/files/aHwxBN8RCAnjCsEvtTxq" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### On the checkout page, the customer can then use the store credit as a form of payment:

<figure><img src="/files/qvM05TrrDt3C48YFLGZr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

So now let's go ahead and enable store credit on your store.

1. From your Shopify dashboard, click **Settings**

<figure><img src="/files/F7qzmPtHFcSNjoy9K0a1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Click **Customer Accounts**

<figure><img src="/files/JJWMD7bwcxqPbGUaAh0o" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Under "Choose which version of customer accounts to link to", check that Customer accounts is selected

<figure><img src="/files/Mjyl8qqFMACcIEihK2ep" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. In the Customer accounts section, toggle the Store credit button to enable store credit

# Integrations

Connect Memberply to other tools and Shopify sales channels so members can use their benefits in more places.

Use the guides in this section to set up each integration.

Available integration guides:

* [Custom storefront integration](/integrations/custom-storefront)
* [Shopify POS integration](/integrations/shopify-pos)
* [Klaviyo integration](/integrations/klaviyo)
* [Webhooks integration](/integrations/webhooks)

# Custom storefront integration

Use the custom storefront integration to connect Memberply to custom buttons, page builders, product bundles, product configurators and cart drawers.

The generated code does not require an API key. Memberply uses your store's Shopify app proxy to identify the store and resolve the current product variant and selling plan for the membership tier you select.

## Open the code generator

1. From the Memberply dashboard, click **Integrations**.
2. Open **Custom storefront**.
3. Choose an integration type.
4. Select the membership tier to use.
5. If the tier offers both monthly and yearly billing, select the purchase option.

## Connect an existing button

Use **Connect an existing button** when you already have a **Join now**, **Add to cart** or similar button on a custom landing page. Memberply finds that button and attaches the add-to-cart action to its click.

Choose whether Memberply should find the button by its exact text or by a CSS selector, then copy the generated code onto the same page as the button. When the button is clicked, Memberply adds the selected membership and opens the cart.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Do not attach this option to a button whose existing job is to open a product builder, colour picker or another selection step. Because the generated code handles the click, use **Add with other products** for those experiences instead.
{% endhint %}

## Add with other products

Use **Add with other products** when your storefront already creates an `items` array for Shopify's Ajax Cart API. This is the recommended option for bundles, product builders and products that ask customers to make selections before adding anything to cart.

For example, a build-your-own bundle page might wait for the customer to select three products. The store's existing code is still responsible for sending those products to Shopify. Memberply supplies one additional membership item that the developer includes in that same request.

{% hint style="info" %}
The generated Memberply code does not add the products or membership to the cart by itself. Your developer must call `getMemberplyCartLine`, combine the returned membership item with the selected products, and send the complete request to Shopify.
{% endhint %}

The generated code adds a `getMemberplyCartLine` function to the page. Call it only after the customer has confirmed all their selections:

```javascript
const membershipLine = await getMemberplyCartLine();
const items = [
  ...selectedProductLines,
  membershipLine
];
await fetch((window.Shopify?.routes?.root || '/') + 'cart/add.js', {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    'Content-Type': 'application/json',
    'Accept': 'application/json'
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({ items })
});
```

Adding the products and membership in one request keeps the cart drawer in sync and avoids adding a membership when a customer opens a selector but leaves without completing it.

The returned line has the Shopify format required by `cart/add.js`:

```javascript
{
  id: 123456789,
  quantity: 1,
  selling_plan: 987654321
}
```

The `selling_plan` property is omitted for membership tiers that do not require one.

## Add membership using JavaScript

Use **Add membership using JavaScript** when your own code decides when to add only the membership. For example, a custom membership sign-up form might add the membership after the customer completes the final step.

This option generates an `addMemberplyMembership` JavaScript function. It does not create a button, attach itself to an existing button, or run automatically. Your developer must call the function at the correct point in the custom experience. When called, it sends the membership to Shopify and does not add a second one if that membership is already in the cart.

After pasting the generated code on the page, call:

```javascript
const result = await addMemberplyMembership();
```

The result status is:

* `added` when the membership was added successfully
* `already_in_cart` when the same membership variant was already present

## Keeping the integration current

The generated code stores the stable Memberply membership tier ID. At runtime, Memberply resolves the tier's current Shopify variant and selling plan IDs, so the integration does not need to hard-code those Shopify IDs.

If you change which membership tier or billing option the custom experience should sell, generate and paste updated code.

## Requirements

Before generating code:

* Create and enable at least one membership tier in Memberply.
* Make sure the membership product is available on the Shopify Online Store sales channel.
* Test the complete add-to-cart experience in a copy of your theme before publishing it.

# Shopify POS integration

The Shopify POS integration lets staff recognise active Memberply members during in-person checkout and apply available member benefits from Shopify POS.

When the integration is enabled, you can add the Member Benefits POS app from the Point of Sale sales channel in Shopify admin. The Memberply tile will then appear in the Shopify POS app with the **Benefits & memberships** subtitle. After selecting a customer in the POS cart, staff can open the tile to view the customer's membership status, membership tier, store credit, reward credit, and member discount, or sell an available membership tier.

## What the integration can do

* Show whether the selected POS customer is an active Memberply member.
* Show the customer's membership tier.
* Show available store credit and reward credit.
* Let staff confirm the customer's member discount while Shopify applies eligible member discounts to the POS cart.
* Let staff add an available membership tier to the Shopify POS cart for a selected customer.
* Keep Shopify POS orders flowing through Memberply order tracking for reward points and spend tracking.

## Before you start

Make sure you have already created your membership tiers and enabled the benefits you want customers to use in store.

If you want to sell recurring memberships in Shopify POS, Shopify also requires:

* Shopify POS app version 10.13 or higher.
* Shopify Payments.
* A credit card, debit card, or digital wallet payment for the POS order.

Shopify POS does not support split payments or gift cards for subscription orders.

If you use native Shopify store credit, store credit must be enabled in Shopify customer accounts. [Click here for instructions on how to enable native store credit.](/members-area/enabling-native-store-credit)

To redeem store credit in Shopify POS, you also need to enable Store Credit as a POS payment method:

1. In Shopify admin, open the Point of Sale sales channel.
2. Click Settings.
3. Under Payments, click Payment methods and options.
4. Under Additional payment methods, enable Store Credit.

## Set up Shopify POS

1. From the Memberply dashboard, click **Integrations**.
2. Click Shopify POS.
3. Review the setup instructions on the Shopify POS integration page.
4. In Shopify admin, open the Point of Sale sales channel.
5. Click Settings.
6. If you want staff to redeem native Shopify store credit in POS, under Payments, click Payment methods and options.
7. Under Additional payment methods, enable Store Credit.
8. Under General, click POS apps.
9. Click Member Benefits.
10. Click Add.
11. Open the Shopify POS app and confirm the Memberply tile appears with the **Benefits & memberships** subtitle.
12. Train staff to add or select the customer in the POS cart before opening the Memberply tile.

## How staff use Memberply in Shopify POS

1. Add products to the Shopify POS cart.
2. Add or select the customer in the POS cart.
3. Tap the Memberply tile on the POS smart grid.
4. Review the customer's membership status and available benefits.
5. If a member discount is available, Shopify can apply the eligible discount to the POS cart automatically after the member is added to the cart.
6. If the customer has native Shopify store credit, redeem it from the Shopify POS customer wallet or payment flow.

## Sell a membership in Shopify POS

1. Add or select the customer in the Shopify POS cart.
2. Tap the Memberply tile on the POS smart grid.
3. If the customer is not already an active member, review the available membership tiers.
4. Tap **Add** next to the membership tier the customer wants to buy.
5. Continue to checkout in Shopify POS.

After checkout, the Memberply tile refreshes the selected customer's status automatically. Some POS payment methods first report the order as **Authorized** and only mark it **Paid** after Shopify finishes processing it. During that interval, the tile shows **Activation pending** and prevents staff from adding a duplicate membership. Staff can tap **Refresh status**, or leave the tile open while it checks again automatically.

For recurring membership tiers, Memberply adds the membership product with the correct Shopify selling plan. The membership product must be available to the Point of Sale sales channel, but it should not be configured in Shopify as a product that requires a subscription. Shopify blocks products that require a subscription from being assigned to the Point of Sale channel.

If Shopify cannot apply the recurring selling plan, Memberply removes the membership line instead of leaving a one-time product in the cart. Confirm the POS app and payment requirements above, then add the membership again.

If Shopify shows an error such as **Channel Point of Sale does not support products that require subscription**, save or reconcile the membership tier in Memberply, then try assigning the product to Point of Sale again.

## How benefits work in Shopify POS

### Member discount

When an active member is added to the POS cart, their eligible member discount can be applied automatically. Staff can use the Memberply tile to confirm that the customer is a member and see which discount is available.

Memberply member discounts use Shopify's order discount class. This lets them combine with product promotions such as Buy X Get Y without requiring Shopify Plus. In Shopify admin, open the Buy X Get Y discount and allow it to combine with **Order discounts**. Shopify POS automatic discount combinations require POS Pro, and both discounts must be configured as combinable.

### Reward points

In-store purchases can still help members earn reward points. Members redeem their points through their member area, which turns the points into store credit.

Once store credit is available on the customer's account, staff redeem it in Shopify POS through Shopify's normal store credit payment flow.

### Cashback

Cashback is earned after a qualifying POS order is processed. It is not applied at the register during the sale.

Once cashback becomes store credit on the customer's account, staff can redeem it in Shopify POS through Shopify's normal store credit payment flow.

### Store credit from other benefits

Store credit earned from benefits such as Loyalty Drops, Fee to Store Credit, Birthday Store Credit, Reward Points, Cashback, or any other Memberply store credit benefit is available on the customer's Shopify account.

Whether the store credit was earned online or in store, staff can redeem it in Shopify POS through Shopify's normal store credit payment flow.

## Important notes

Memberply provides the Member Benefits POS app and Memberply tile, but Shopify requires each store to add the POS app manually from the Point of Sale sales channel in Shopify admin. After you add it there, the Memberply tile can appear in the Shopify POS app for your staff.

Recurring memberships sold in Shopify POS are subject to Shopify's subscription checkout limitations. Shopify requires Shopify Payments and supported card or digital wallet payment methods for subscription orders in POS.

Native Shopify store credit is redeemed through Shopify's customer wallet or checkout payment flow. Memberply can show the available store credit balance in Shopify POS, but Shopify does not currently provide a public POS extension cart action for applying native store credit directly from a custom tile.

For reward points, Shopify POS orders continue through Shopify order tracking, so eligible POS orders can still count toward Memberply reward points and spend tracking.

# Klaviyo integration

The Klaviyo integration keeps Memberply membership data in sync with Klaviyo profiles. You can use this data to create Klaviyo segments and send emails to customers in specific membership tiers.

When a customer joins a tier, moves to another tier, schedules a cancellation, or becomes inactive, Memberply updates custom properties on that customer's Klaviyo profile.

## What the integration can do

* Sync each customer's current Memberply membership status to Klaviyo.
* Sync the customer's active membership tier ID and tier name.
* Clear the active tier fields when the customer is no longer active.
* Keep the customer's most recent Memberply tier available after cancellation.
* Sync scheduled cancellation dates for memberships that cancel at the end of the billing period.
* Let you build Klaviyo segments for active members, inactive members, or members in a specific tier.

## Before you start

You need a Klaviyo private API key with `profiles:write` access.

To create a private API key in Klaviyo:

1. In Klaviyo, open Account settings.
2. Open API keys.
3. Create a private API key.
4. Give the key write access for profiles.
5. Copy the private API key.

Memberply only updates profile properties. It does not subscribe or unsubscribe customers from email marketing, and it does not change Klaviyo consent status.

## Set up Klaviyo

1. From the Memberply dashboard, click Integrations.
2. Click Klaviyo.
3. Paste your Klaviyo private API key.
4. Click **Save settings**.
5. Confirm the integration status changes to Integrated.

After this is saved, Memberply will start syncing membership changes to Klaviyo profiles.

## Properties synced to Klaviyo

Memberply syncs these custom properties to each Klaviyo profile:

| Property                                         | Description                                                                                                           |
| ------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `memberply_member_status`                        | The customer's membership status. This is `active` or `inactive`.                                                     |
| `memberply_membership_tier_name` | The customer's current active Memberply tier name. This is cleared when the customer becomes inactive. |
| `memberply_membership_product_shopify_id` | The Shopify product ID for the customer's active membership tier. This is cleared when the customer becomes inactive. |
| `memberply_last_membership_tier_id` | The Shopify product ID for the customer's most recent membership tier. This stays available after cancellation. |
| `memberply_last_membership_tier_name` | The most recent Memberply tier name for the customer. This stays available after cancellation. |
| `memberply_member_since` | The date and time the customer joined the tier. |
| `memberply_membership_cancellation_scheduled_at` | The scheduled cancellation date when a member cancels at the end of the billing period. |
| `memberply_membership_cancelled_at` | The date and time Memberply marked the membership inactive. |
| `memberply_shopify_customer_id`                  | The customer's Shopify customer ID.                                                                                   |
| `memberply_shopify_shop_domain`                  | Your Shopify shop domain.                                                                                             |

Memberply also sends these standard Klaviyo profile fields when available:

| Field          | Description                                                                          |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `email`        | The customer's email address.                                                        |
| `first_name`   | The customer's first name.                                                           |
| `last_name`    | The customer's last name.                                                            |
| `phone_number` | The customer's phone number.                                                         |
| `external_id` | A stable Memberply identifier using the Shopify shop domain and Shopify customer ID. |

## Example Klaviyo segments

### Active members

Create a Klaviyo segment where:

* Properties about someone > `memberply_member_status` equals `active`

### Active members in a specific tier

Create a Klaviyo segment where:

* Properties about someone > `memberply_member_status` equals `active`
* Properties about someone > `memberply_membership_tier_name` equals your tier name

You can also use `memberply_membership_product_shopify_id` instead of the tier name if you want the segment to keep working even if the tier name changes.

### Cancelled members from a specific tier

Create a Klaviyo segment where:

* Properties about someone > `memberply_member_status` equals `inactive`
* Properties about someone > `memberply_last_membership_tier_name` equals your tier name

## Important notes

Klaviyo may only show a custom property in the segment builder after at least one profile has received that property.

If you change a customer's tier in Memberply, the active tier properties in Klaviyo are updated to the new tier.

If a customer cancels immediately, Memberply marks the customer inactive in Klaviyo and clears the active tier fields.

If a customer cancels at the end of the billing period, Memberply syncs the scheduled cancellation date while the customer remains active. When the membership becomes inactive, Memberply updates the profile again.

# Webhooks integration

The Webhooks integration sends important Memberply membership events to an external URL. You can use this to connect Memberply with tools such as GHL, Zapier, Make, CRMs, or your own custom systems.

Use webhooks when you want another platform to react automatically when a customer's membership changes.

## What the integration can do

* Send member activation events when a customer becomes an active member.
* Send member cancellation events when a member becomes inactive.
* Send tier change events when a member moves from one membership tier to another.
* Send subscription payment failure events for failed membership billing attempts.
* Send reward points balance change events when reward points are redeemed.
* Sign each webhook request so your receiving system can verify it came from Memberply.
* Send a test webhook to confirm your endpoint is receiving requests.
* Retry failed deliveries and show recent delivery history in Memberply.

## Before you start

You need an endpoint URL that can receive `POST` requests with a JSON body.

This URL may come from:

* GHL.
* Zapier.
* Make.
* A custom CRM.
* Your own server or middleware.

Your endpoint should return a successful `2xx` response after it receives the webhook.

## Set up webhooks

1. From the Memberply dashboard, click **Integrations**.
2. Click **Webhooks**.
3. Paste your endpoint URL.
4. Select the events you want Memberply to send.
5. Click **Save settings**.
6. Copy the signing secret and store it somewhere secure.
7. Click **Send test webhook** to confirm your endpoint receives requests.

After this is saved, Memberply will start queueing the selected events for delivery to your endpoint URL.

## Delivery history and retries

Memberply queues each webhook delivery in the database before sending it. This keeps membership flows fast and means delivery can continue even if your endpoint is temporarily unavailable.

Memberply treats any `2xx` response from your endpoint as a successful delivery.

If your endpoint times out or returns a non-`2xx` response, Memberply keeps the delivery in a retry queue and tries again automatically. A delivery can be attempted up to 5 times. The retry schedule is:

* 1 minute after the first failed attempt.
* 5 minutes after the second failed attempt.
* 30 minutes after the third failed attempt.
* 2 hours after later failed attempts, until the maximum attempt count is reached.

The delivery worker checks for due deliveries every 10 seconds by default. It claims a batch of due deliveries before sending them, so multiple Memberply API instances can run the worker without sending the same webhook at the same time.

You can see recent webhook deliveries from **Integrations** > **Webhooks** in Memberply. The delivery history shows:

* The event name and webhook event ID.
* Whether the delivery is pending, delivered, or failed.
* How many attempts have been made.
* The last response code or error.
* The next scheduled retry, if one is pending.

If you need to send a webhook again, click **Replay** next to the delivery. Replay creates a new delivery attempt for the same payload.

Each webhook payload includes an `id`. Use this ID in your receiving system for idempotency, so the same event is not processed twice if it is retried or replayed.

## Available events

## Webhook payload

Each webhook is sent as a `POST` request with a JSON body.

Example payload:

```json
{
  "id": "example_webhook_id",
  "event_name": "member.activated",
  "occurred_at": "2026-05-28T10:30:00Z",
  "shop": "example.myshopify.com",
  "data": {
    "member": {
      "email": "customer@example.com",
      "first_name": "Jane",
      "last_name": "Smith",
      "phone": "+61400000000",
      "country": "Australia",
      "shopify_customer_id": 123456789,
      "status": "active",
      "member_since": "2026-05-01T00:00:00Z"
    },
    "membership": {
      "tier_name": "Gold Membership",
      "membership_product_shopify_id": 123456789,
      "last_tier_name": "Gold Membership",
      "last_membership_product_shopify_id": 123456789,
      "cancellation_scheduled_at": null,
      "cancelled_at": null
    },
    "metrics": {
      "current_points_balance": 120,
      "lifetime_points_earned": 300,
      "points_redeemed": 180,
      "total_orders": 4,
      "total_spend": 250,
      "currency": "USD",
      "last_order_date": "2026-05-20T00:00:00Z"
    },
    "shopify": {
      "shop_domain": "example.myshopify.com",
      "customer_id": 123456789
    },
    "extra": null
  }
}
```

Some events include extra event-specific data in the `extra` object.

For example, `member.points_balance_changed` includes:

```json
{
  "points": {
    "previous_balance": 200,
    "new_balance": 120,
    "points_changed": -80,
    "action_type": "Redeemed",
    "description": "Points redeemed for discount code"
  }
}
```

## Request headers

Memberply sends these headers with each webhook:

| Header                  | Description                                                                        |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `X-Memberply-Event`     | The event name, such as `member.activated`.                                        |
| `X-Memberply-Signature` | An HMAC SHA-256 signature generated from the request body and your signing secret. |

Use the signing secret to confirm the webhook was sent by Memberply before processing it.

## Important notes

Webhook delivery is intended for automation and integration workflows. It is not a replacement for a full public API.

If you regenerate the signing secret, update your receiving system before relying on signature verification.

If your endpoint is temporarily unavailable, Memberply retries failed deliveries automatically. You can also review and replay recent deliveries from the Webhooks integration page.

Reward points events are only useful when the Reward Points benefit is enabled.

# Import members

Use the Members page to import members into a membership tier in bulk using a CSV file.

1. From the main menu, click **Members**.
2. Click the Import Members button.

<figure><img src="/files/yh2U0mnYFxKiTfOZLoFN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. In the import window, enter the Notification Email address. This is the email address that will receive a confirmation once the import has been completed.

<figure><img src="/files/zGhXPcSFdX3JVPSYTGwP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Select the Membership Product that the imported members should be added to.
5. If you want active imported members to receive the welcome email configured for the selected membership product, select **Send welcome email to active imported members**. This option is off by default, so no welcome emails are sent unless you select it.
6. Upload your CSV file.
7. Your CSV file must include the following columns:

* `firstname`
* `lastname`
* `emailaddress`
* `active`
* `datejoined` (optional)

8. Fill in each column as follows:

* `firstname`: The member's first name.
* `lastname`: The member's last name.
* `emailaddress`: The member's email address.
* `active`: Whether the member is an active member and can access the membership benefits. Use `yes` or `no` for each member.
* `datejoined`: Optional. If supplied, the membership date starts from this date. If no `datejoined` column is supplied, the membership starts from now.

9. You can import up to 500 members at a time in a single CSV file.
10. Click Import.
11. Memberply will begin processing the import and will email you once the import has been completed.

While an import is queued or processing, the Members page shows its current status. Starting another import and cancelling a member are temporarily unavailable until the active import finishes. When processing completes, Memberply automatically refreshes the member list so newly imported members and their membership status are available before you take further action.

If an import fails, the Members page shows a failure status and the notification email contains more information about rows that could not be imported.

Example CSV:

```csv
firstname,lastname,emailaddress,active
John,Smith,john@example.com,yes
Jane,Doe,jane@example.com,no
```

Example CSV with joined dates:

```csv
firstname,lastname,emailaddress,active,datejoined
John,Smith,john@example.com,yes,2025-09-01
Jane,Doe,jane@example.com,no,2025-10-15
```

# Export members

Use the Members page to export your current member list to a CSV file.

1. From the main menu, click **Members**.
2. Click the Export Members button.
3. Memberply will download a CSV file named with the export date, for example `memberply-members-2026-04-26.csv`.

The exported CSV file includes the following columns:

* `firstname`
* `lastname`
* `emailaddress`
* `active`
* `datejoined`

Each column is filled in as follows:

* `firstname`: The member's first name.
* `lastname`: The member's last name.
* `emailaddress`: The member's email address.
* `active`: Whether the member is currently active. Active members are exported as `yes`; inactive or cancelled members are exported as `no`.
* `datejoined`: The date the member joined. If a joined date is not available, Memberply uses the member's created date.

Example CSV:

```csv
firstname,lastname,emailaddress,active,datejoined
John,Smith,john@example.com,yes,2025-09-01
Jane,Doe,jane@example.com,no,2025-10-15
```

{% hint style="info" %}
If there are no members in the list, the export cannot be downloaded.
{% endhint %}

# Unsupported payment gateways

Memberply bridges the gap when Shopify cannot process recurring charges through your chosen gateway. Whether you are a store owner in Turkey using PayTR, a store owner in India using Razorpay, a store owner in Latin America using Mercado Pago, a store owner in Sweden using Swedish Klarna and many more - we've got you covered since Shopify doesn't support your payment gateway for subscriptions.

Memberply turns a single annual payment into a full-featured "subscription-like" experience.

It does this by combining:

1. A **one-time payment membership tier** where you can set the membership cost to be the cost for 1 year.
2. An automatic **benefit expiry** so that benefits expire after 1 year.
3. An **early-bird renewal discount incentive** such as 10% off for renewing early.
4. **Renewal reminder emails** that send the member straight back to checkout with the discount already applied.

#### How this looks for members

1. Your member buys your "Annual Membership" once.
2. Enjoys benefits for 12 months.
3. Receives 3 friendly emails before the membership expires.
4. Each email contains a direct link to the checkout page, with your early bird discount code automatically applied. This highly encourages your member to buy your membership product again.
5. Your member clicks any of the 3 emails, sees the discount already applied, pays once more, and the cycle restarts.

By coordinating these five features, Memberply effectively mimics a subscription model, even if your payment gateway is not supported for subscription payments through Shopify.

Click **Next: Create a One-Time Payment Membership Tier** to get started.

# Create a one-time payment membership tier

The first step is to create a one-time payment membership tier.

1. From the left sidebar, click **Membership Tiers**.

<figure><img src="/files/2vSy6093f69ny5f3V1wr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. On the right side, click **Add New Membership Tier**.

<figure><img src="/files/16PUuZXLxmJWXHymo1F3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. On the right side, enter a name for your membership tier, for example **VIP Club**.

<figure><img src="/files/8x4S3hU0IKGN5PbBEoLf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Enter a description for your membership tier.

<figure><img src="/files/5GU3uKyRgRce53n6S59M" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Select **One-Time Payment** as the method to charge customers.

{% hint style="info" %}
Once you click **Save and Publish**, the billing method is locked to protect existing members. You can update everything else, but if you need to change this locked setting, create a new membership tier and remove or disable the old one.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/AhDCpCcXvbpilGH6971i" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Enter a membership cost. We recommend setting this to the cost of 1 year of membership.

{% hint style="info" %}
Once you click **Save and Publish**, the membership cost is locked to protect existing members. You can update everything else, but if you need to change this locked setting, create a new membership tier and remove or disable the old one.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/mWsD32omeZ0Xw89wz0HZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

7. Now add an expiry on the membership benefits for 1 year.

<figure><img src="/files/qRWrzN0RzPds2FtlRqyB" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

8. Enter an early bird discount value as an incentive for members to renew their membership. You can select either a percentage off discount such as 10% off, or a fixed amount discount such as $10 off.

<figure><img src="/files/k3rvD3zZAsOPe6Q9qnyS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

9. Enter when the early bird discount is valid until. We recommend making this 1 day after the membership expires. This allows all 3 renewal reminder emails to be sent and gives the member a chance to renew with the discount if they do not get to their emails in time.

<figure><img src="/files/HFjgsurMzKKNj4OztbzF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

10. Click **Save and Publish**.

<figure><img src="/files/AXOernsxlsAmS4EGNKzm" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

11. Once you have saved your membership tier, click **View Product** to see the membership product on your storefront.

<figure><img src="/files/DX5xfsBk98wzxeeRc63Y" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Enable the renewal reminder emails

Memberply can send up to 3 emails which remind a member that their membership is about to expire and to renew in order to not lose their member benefits.

The first email is sent 14 days before the membership expires.

The second email is sent 7 days before the membership expires.

The third email is sent 1 day before the membership expires.

In each email, Memberply automatically adds a call to action to renew their membership with a direct link to the checkout page with the membership product. The checkout page will also have the early bird incentive discount already applied to it if you have [set it up as per these instructions.](/how-to-offer-subscriptions-with-non-supported-payment-gateways-in-shopify/create-a-one-time-payment-membership-tier)

{% hint style="info" %}
If you enable all 3 emails, Memberply automatically generates the subject and body of each email. You only need to edit them if you want to change the wording.
{% endhint %}

1. From the main menu, click **Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/QmIfPIZEjiEAh6KJElTk" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Next, select the one-time payment membership tier row and click **Edit Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/yAt4nKuLmrfSxedRzlUo" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Next find the First Renewal Reminder Email row and then toggle the button to Enabled. Now find the Second Renewal Reminder Email row and then toggle the button to Enabled. Finally, now find the Third Renewal Reminder Email row and then toggle the button to Enabled.

<figure><img src="/files/52XUqfVjPfh1Tap8QP13" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. That's all you have to do. The three emails have now been automatically created.
5. Optional: if you want to edit the wording of each email, select the email you want to edit and click **Edit**.

<figure><img src="/files/oP7KKomOXn8CgVuzdLP9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

6. Edit the email and click **Save**.

<figure><img src="/files/To8WzpHF1jaTQ8RNntR2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Emails

The following pages cover how to change the wording in emails sent to your members.

You can also set the language used by Memberply's transactional emails, such as points earned emails, store credit emails, discount code emails, member login link emails, and membership benefits expiring emails.

# Customizing member emails

Memberply uses the same visual email designer for welcome emails, renewal reminders, and member event emails. Each membership tier can have its own email content and images.

1. From the main menu, click **Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/QmIfPIZEjiEAh6KJElTk" alt="Memberply Emails menu"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Select the membership tier and click **Edit Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/yAt4nKuLmrfSxedRzlUo" alt="Membership tier email settings"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Find the email you want to send and set it to **Enabled**.

<figure><img src="/files/fcd0iMi0I0qhJEjNQadl" alt="Member email enabled setting"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4. Click **Edit**, then enter the **From Name** and **Subject**.
5. In **Email design**, drag content blocks into the email. Select a block to change its text, formatting, spacing, colors, links, or other settings.

## Adding an image

1. Drag an **Image** block into the email designer.
2. Select the Image block and click **Upload Image**.
3. Choose the image from your device and wait for it to appear in the email.
4. Add descriptive alt text for members whose email client does not display the image.

{% hint style="info" %}
The email designer hosts uploaded images so email clients can load them when a member opens the message.
{% endhint %}

6. Review the email and click **Save**.

Existing emails created with the previous editor are carried into the visual designer the first time you open them. After you save, Memberply stores both the finished email and its editable design.

# Setting the language for transactional emails

Memberply can send transactional emails to members when something happens automatically, such as when a member earns points, receives store credit, receives a discount code, requests a member login link, or is notified that their membership benefits are about to expire.

By default, these emails are sent in English. You can change the transactional email language so these automatically generated emails are sent in the language that best matches your market.

This is a store-wide setting. Once you change it, Memberply will use that language for all built-in transactional emails it sends for your store.

1. From the main menu, click **Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/QmIfPIZEjiEAh6KJElTk" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Next, select the membership tier and click **Edit Emails**.

<figure><img src="/files/yAt4nKuLmrfSxedRzlUo" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. In the Transactional email language section, choose the language you want Memberply to use.
4. Memberply will save the setting automatically.

The available languages are:

* English
* Deutsch
* Español
* Filipino
* Français
* हिन्दी
* Italiano
* 日本語
* Português
* Svenska
* Türkçe
* 中文

This setting applies to Memberply's built-in transactional emails. Custom emails that you write yourself, such as the welcome email and renewal reminder emails, keep the wording you entered in the email editor.

# Landing pages

Memberply provides you the ability to create a dedicated landing page that can you add to your store, which sells your membership programs.

# Customizing the dedicated landing page for your membership programs

Memberply helps you market your membership program by creating a dedicated landing page that sells your membership program.

The landing page builder now uses a visual drag-and-drop editor. Instead of filling in lots of separate fields, you can edit the page directly and publish it when you are ready.

## How to create or update your landing page

1. From the main menu, click **Landing Page**.
2. At the top of the page, enter the page title you want to use for your landing page.
3. Use the visual editor to customise the design of the page.

You can click into the existing content and update the text, layout, sections, buttons, colours, images, and other design elements directly inside the editor.

Memberply already loads a starter design for you, so you can either:

* make small changes to the existing design, or
* rebuild the page to better match your brand.

4. When you are happy with the design, click **Save and Publish**.

This publishes the landing page to your store.

5. After publishing, click **View Page** to open the live landing page.

We then recommend adding the published page to the main menu of your store so customers can easily find it.

## Resetting the design

If you want to start over, click **Reset design**.

This resets the editor back to the original Memberply starter design. It only changes the design inside the editor, and you can publish again afterwards when you are ready.

## Unpublishing the landing page

If you no longer want the landing page to be live on your store, click **Unpublish**.

## Using your own landing page or button

If you use your own landing page or a third-party page builder, you can connect any **Join now** or **Add to cart** button to Memberply.

[Learn how to add a membership to the cart from your own button](/create-a-dedicated-landing-page-selling-your-membership-programs/add-a-membership-to-the-cart-from-your-own-button).

## Important note

Before using the landing page, make sure you have created and enabled at least one membership tier first.

# Add a membership to the cart from your own button

If you already have your own custom landing page or use a third-party page builder, you can connect your **Join now** or **Add to cart** button to Memberply. When a customer clicks the button, the membership tier you select will be added to their cart.

## Get the join button code

1. From the Memberply dashboard, click **Integrations**.
2. Open **Custom storefront**.
3. Select **Connect an existing button**.
4. Select the membership tier you want the button to add to cart.
5. If that membership tier has both monthly and yearly purchase options, choose the purchase option you want.
6. Choose how Memberply should find your button:

* **Button text** if you want Memberply to find a button by its exact text, such as `Join now`
* **CSS selector** if you want Memberply to target a specific button on the page

7. Enter the button text or CSS selector.
8. Copy the generated code.
9. Paste the script somewhere on the same page as your button.

If you are already editing a Memberply landing page, click **Get Join Button Code** on the **Landing Page** page to open the same button-code workflow without leaving the page.

When a matching button is clicked, the selected membership tier will be added to the cart and the customer will be taken to their cart.

## Other custom storefront options

Memberply can also provide a membership cart line for product builders, bundles and other custom cart experiences, or add a membership from your own JavaScript. See [Custom storefront integration](/integrations/custom-storefront) for details.

## Important note

Before using the integration code, make sure you have created and enabled at least one membership tier.

# Legacy customer accounts

# Change the colors of the member benefits area (legacy customer accounts)

{% hint style="info" %}
You will only see this option in the menu if you are using legacy customer accounts.
{% endhint %}

If you are using legacy customer accounts, Memberply creates a separate member portal that can be accessed from the customer's Shopify account. This member portal enables members to access their benefits. The following steps will add your logo and change the colors of the members area to match your store's branding.

It wasn't possible to have it all under the one member portal. However, with the new Customer accounts Shopify allows us to customize the members area within Shopify. As a result, if you are using the new Customer accounts everything is under the one member portal area.

1. From the main menu, click **Member Portal**.

2. Click **Choose file** to upload an image of your logo. This will be displayed in the members portal.

## How cancellation status is shown

If a membership is configured to end immediately, Memberply shows it as **Cancelled** after Shopify confirms the cancellation.

If a membership is configured to end at the end of the billing period, Memberply shows **Cancellation scheduled** together with the date access will end. The member remains active and can continue using their benefits until that date. When the date arrives, Memberply asks Shopify to cancel the subscription. If Shopify does not confirm the cancellation, Memberply keeps the membership active and retries instead of showing a completed cancellation.

These statuses appear consistently in the merchant members list, member details and the Members Area for both legacy and new customer accounts.
