# Change a member's access expiry

You can set a custom last day of access for an individual member. This is useful when granting an extension, correcting an imported expiry date, or giving a member access for a fixed period.

## Set a custom expiry date

1. In Memberply, open **Members**.
2. Select the member you want to update.
3. In **Access expiry**, select **Edit expiry**.
4. Choose the last day the member can use their membership benefits.
5. Select **Save expiry**.

The member keeps access through the selected date. Changing the expiry does not change their original join date.

If the membership had already expired, saving a future date restores that membership and its Memberply customer tags. A member cannot be restored this way while they have another active membership.

## Restore the tier's default expiry

Open **Edit expiry**, then select **Restore default**. For a free or one-time membership, Memberply calculates the expiry from the member's original join date and the tier's configured access period. A tier set to **No Expiry** has no automatic expiry once the individual override is removed.

## Shopify-managed recurring memberships

The access expiry cannot be edited while a monthly or annual membership has an active Shopify subscription contract. Shopify controls access through the subscription's billing and cancellation dates, so use the next billing date or subscription cancellation controls instead.

To give an active subscriber more time before their next charge, see [Change a subscription's next billing date](/members-area/change-a-subscriptions-next-billing-date.md).
