# Change a subscription's next billing date

You can move the next billing date for a member with an active monthly or annual Shopify subscription. This is useful when giving a member a complimentary extension before their next charge.

## Change the date

1. In Memberply, open **Members**.
2. Select the member whose subscription you want to update.
3. Under **Next billing date**, select **Change billing date**.
4. Choose a future date.
5. Review the schedule information, then select **Save billing date**.

Memberply updates the Shopify subscription contract. The membership remains active and the member is not charged until the new billing date.

## How future billing dates are calculated

Changing the next billing date also shifts the ongoing schedule. Future charges continue from the new date according to the subscription's existing monthly or annual frequency.

For example, consider a monthly subscription that would next bill on 15 September:

* Change the next billing date to 30 September.
* Shopify next charges the member on 30 September.
* Monthly billing then continues on 30 October, 30 November, and so on.

For an annual subscription, changing 15 September 2026 to 30 September 2026 means the following billing date will be 30 September 2027.

Changing the billing date does not change the subscription price or billing frequency.

Change the date before the scheduled billing day. The date cannot be changed while a charge is due or while Shopify is retrying a failed or challenged payment.

## Which memberships are supported?

This option is available only for active monthly and annual Shopify subscription contracts. For free, one-time payment, or imported memberships without an active Shopify subscription, use [Change a member's access expiry](/members-area/change-a-members-access-expiry.md) instead.
