# Delete a member

Use **Delete member** to permanently remove a test account or another eligible member from Memberply only. Their Shopify customer record and orders are kept. Any active, paused or failed Memberply membership subscriptions are cancelled immediately, including subscriptions previously scheduled to end later. Use cancellation alone if you want to end a membership while keeping its history.

## What is deleted

Deleting a member removes their Memberply profile, all their membership tier records in your store, points, benefit history, referral records and applications. This cannot be undone. Export anything you need to keep before continuing.

The Shopify customer remains in your store. Memberply removes its membership tags and marks membership access inactive in Shopify so the customer no longer receives membership benefits. Unrelated customer tags are kept.

Previous payments are not refunded. Subscriptions managed by other apps are not cancelled. This action does not delete orders or delete contacts from Klaviyo, Omnisend or other external services. Existing integration notifications attempt to mark the member inactive before Memberply removes their membership records. Historical billing and administrative audit records are retained.

## Delete the member

1. Open **Members** and select the member.
2. Click **Delete member** on their details page.
3. Read the warning and confirm that the member will be deleted from Memberply only, keeping their Shopify customer record, and that their Memberply membership subscriptions will be cancelled immediately.
4. Type `DELETE` exactly to confirm both cancellation and deletion.
5. Click **Cancel and delete**.

Choose **Keep member**, press Escape, or click outside the modal to leave without deleting. While deletion is running, wait for the result. On success, Memberply returns you to the member list.

## When deletion is blocked

Existing Shopify orders do not prevent deletion from Memberply. Memberply cancels its membership subscriptions before deleting the member, so you do not need to cancel them separately. Memberply waits for active imports or in-progress member operations to finish.

If Shopify cannot confirm cancellation of every Memberply subscription or membership access cleanup, Memberply keeps the member record so you can retry. Some subscriptions may already have been cancelled. Retrying checks their current Shopify status and skips subscriptions that have already ended. If a request is interrupted or deletion cannot be confirmed, refresh the member list before retrying. The Shopify customer record is never deleted by this action.

Deletion is always a manual choice. Cancelling a membership does not automatically delete the member or their Shopify customer account.

On the member details page, open **Edit member** to find this action.
