# Edit member contact details

Open **Members**, select a member, open **Edit member**, then choose **Edit name**, **Edit email**, or **Edit address** on their details page. The editor loads the current details from Shopify.

## Change a name

1. Select **Edit name**.
2. Update the first name, last name, or both. At least one is required, with up to 255 characters per field.
3. Select **Save changes**.

The change updates the existing member in Memberply and their linked Shopify customer profile. You can use it for a married name, a spelling correction, or a preferred name. Memberships, points, member numbers and history remain attached to the same customer.

Changing a name does not transfer an account to a different Shopify customer, change the login email, or grant staff discounts. If a shared account should use another person's email, review and update it separately with **Edit email**. If the person needs a staff membership tier, use [Change a member's membership](/members-area/change-a-members-membership.md). Review who should retain access before changing a shared account.

Profile names are separate from shipping recipient names. Use **Edit address** if delivery details also need updating. Past orders and payment billing details are unchanged.

## Change an email address

1. Select **Edit email**.
2. Enter the new email address.
3. Select **Save changes**.

The change updates the existing customer in Shopify and their member record in Memberply. Their membership, benefits, points and history remain attached to the same member. The member should use the new email address to sign in.

Shopify may reject an email that another customer already uses. This feature does not merge customer accounts or change marketing consent. Check any separately managed email marketing profiles if you need to consolidate them.

## Change an address

1. Select **Edit address**.
2. Enter the new address. Use the country selector and the state or province code where applicable, such as WA or QC. Include the country calling code in telephone numbers.
3. Optionally select **Also update future subscription shipping addresses**.
4. Select **Save changes**.

This edits the customer's default Shopify address, or creates a default address if they do not have one. Other saved customer addresses are left in place. Address recipient names and phone numbers belong to the address; they do not replace the member's profile name or phone number.

The subscription checkbox is off by default. When selected, Memberply also updates shipping addresses on the member's active and paused Memberply subscriptions. It does not change pickup or local-delivery arrangements, subscriptions managed by other apps, shipping methods, or shipping rates. Check delivery coverage and pricing separately when a member moves to a different region.

Past orders, orders already created for upcoming deliveries, and payment billing details are not changed. Edit any existing order separately if it needs to go to the new address.

## If a save cannot be completed

If the details changed while the editor was open, choose **Reload details**, review the current values, and enter your changes again. Reloading replaces any unsaved entries in the form.

If Shopify rejects a name, email, or address, check the details and try again after reloading. A connection or synchronization error can occur after Shopify has accepted the change. Reload the details to check the current value and save again to finish syncing Memberply.

If the customer address was saved but some subscription addresses could not be updated, reload the details and try again with the subscription checkbox selected. Some subscriptions may already have been updated, so check their delivery details before the next order is created.

The **Edit member** menu is in the member profile header alongside **Membership card**. Choose an action to open its editor.
